Key Responsibilities

  • Record verbatim transcripts of Congressional proceedings including hearings, floor activities, and caucus meetings.
  • Ensure accuracy in grammar, punctuation, and parliamentary language per the Government Publishing Office Style Manual.
  • Edit and proofread transcripts for accuracy and clarity.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of secret and top-secret documents.
  • Work under tight deadlines and adapt to long hours, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Office of Official Reporters’ staff to support legislative documentation.

Qualifications

  • Certification: National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) proficiency certification or similar certification from any state or jurisdiction is strongly preferred.
  • Skills:
    Proficiency in high-speed stenographic reporting in multi-voice environments.
    Strong knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.
    Familiarity with the Rules and Procedures of the House.
  • Security Clearance:
    Must hold or obtain National Security Clearance.
  • Ability to handle stress, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in a professional environment.
